Hawaiian Christmas
|
It was Christmas in July ... literally ... when Tradewinds Records started production of this album, Hawaiian Christmas and finding elegant Christmas props could have been a tedious task. However, the dazzling Festival of Trees ornaments complete with Christmas tree became the setting for this album cover. This Album is still the standard against which all Hawaiian Christmas recordings are compared. Margaret Williams Tuft came to Hawaii in the 1950's and hung out at Waikiki beach where the beach boys and other young singers and musicians would gather to play and sing Hawaiian. She heard "Boy" Summinguit and decided to record his version of "Beyond the Reef" and asked Noelani Kanoho Mahoe to sing "Palisa" on the flip side. Margaret called her label "Tradewinds" and that single launched a recording company that became the leader in producing the most authentic Hawaiian recordings at the time. This will indeed be a very Hawaiian Christmas. |
